Longtime Eigenheim Church members and Rosthern residents, Ben and Frieda Unger moved into Prairie Meadow place soon after construction was completed. It was just the type of housing they were seeking. They enjoyed and appreciated all the PMP community had to offer. So much so, that during a particularly challenging time for PMP financially, Ben and Frieda extended their generosity to help PMP out of that situation. As others have risen in the past to alleviate financial crisis, this time it was Ben and Frida who came to our aid. Not only did they help divert a crisis, but they also committed to ongoing monthly financial support that continued until they both passed.
Both Ben and Frieda were always grateful for the PMP community and the security and support they both experienced at PMP. They were faithful in supporting financially and in prayer until both were called home in August of 2021 and then Nov 2024.
We were very humbled to find that after their passing, PMP was named as one of the beneficiaries in their estate. Ben & Frieda’s generous bequeathment has allowed PMP to secure a much-needed contingency fund, allowed us to retire a nagging debt and allowed us to move forward with many projects that will enhance our mission of providing safe, affordable housing for seniors. PMP will be forever grateful for and indebted to people like Ben and Frieda Unger.
Eh Ku Thaw has worked at PMP for the last 3 years. He began as a quiet grade 10 RJC student. It did not take long before Eh Ku Thaw became a vital part of the PMP community, bringing with him his unique flair and personality. He embraced serving the people of PMP. We especially appreciated how he connected personally with our residents.
This past June, Eh Ku Thaw was recognized by his school community at graduation as the recipient of the “Spirit of Generosity” Award. Not only did PMP benefit from Eh Ku Thaw’s helpful and generous nature so did his school community. In Eh Ku Thaw’s letter of recommendation, his principal highlighted Eh Ku Thaw’s “disposition of service and how he modelled inclusion, invitation and welcome”. All these attributes were demonstrated in our community as well.
With this award bestowed on Eh Ku Thaw, he received $500 dollars and could allocate an additional $500 dollars to a charity of his choice. He immediately came asking if it was possible to donate to the people of PMP. We humbly accepted his generous gift.
We wish him well as he graduates from high school and pursues full time work. We will miss Eh Ku Thaw’s willingness to make positive connections, his willingness to work tirelessly behind the scenes and his laidback, unflustered approach. His usual response of …”it will be alright’ will be missed!
We have a lot to learn from this young man. Sometimes it isn’t always the grand gestures that can make a difference in our world, but it is willingness to “do our little” to make positive changes in our environment that speaks volumes.
